Well I headed to the UCG (sorry Cineworld)the other night to watch the mystery film of the year so far, Brick. Starring the little dude (not so little now) from THird ROck from the Sun, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the little gal (still little in stature but not in age) from (the very dreadful Sci Fi drama) Roswell, Emilie de Ravin.
The story goes that Emily (Roswell chick) phones her ex-boyfriend Brandon (T.R.F.T.S dude) to ask for help as she took a ”BRICK and the BRICK was BAD and now the PIN is involved.” She then drops the phone and disappears, this is all he has to go on…a missing girlfriend in need of help and a cryptic message from her in a public phone booth. He decides to get involved which he has been reluctant to do in the past and this is pretty much all I can give you as the action that unfolds is worth seeing for yourself. It is modern Film Noir at it’s best, very black and very very funny. There is a lot of literary language used at times and due to this can be hard to follow, but on the whole it is an outstanding piece of work from the first time director Rian Johnson. I rate it 4 outta 5. Check it out the official website. Enjoy! www.brickmovie.net
(NB: Due to the level of intelligence needed in order to maintain and follow what was going on, there were no NEDS present…hurrah!)
