Went to see School for Scoundrels on saturday night as the fall back movie, cause you’ve always gotta have one. Actually wanted to see The Science of Sleep but it was sold out oddly enough. However, School for Scoundrels (which is a truly crap title and the film shouldn’t be judged on) was absolutely hilarious from start to finish.
The synposis goes that Roger (Jon Heder of the cult hit Naploeon Dynamite) is a loser. He can’t get a girl and he can’t get anything right in his life. He even gets booted out of the ‘big brother be-friender’ programme at his local community centre. So he is secretly given a number to call to get on a course which Roger believes is a self help course. And of course the teacher is the mighty Billy Bob Thornton (of Angelina Jolie marriage madness and Monsters Ball fame). And so the madness ensues. Of course there is a woman who Roger wants to pursue but she’s just too cute and popular for a loser like him, or is she????
This film is a little unbelievable in terms of a plausible plot at times, but there are some real genuine comedy moments which just made me laugh so hard I nearly cried. I definetly shed some tears at one point or another. Billy Bob is excellent as the hard nut teacher who is full of insults and one liners. Jon Heder is great as the geeky loserish guy who is desperate to impress a girl. It has enough quirky dialogue and comedy moments to last the whole film.
Sorry guys, not the greatest review I’ve done, but don’t really want to give much away. Just go see it and laugh hard. I give it 3 and a half out of 5!!
